Meet the Fletchers
There’s nothing quite like the taste of a freshly-picked apple, and that’s been the cornerstone of Fletcher’s Fruit Farm’s success over the past 150 years.
Brenda and Kevin Fletcher are the fourth generation to run the operation. He started working on the family farm full time when he was 15, and she began her career as an apple farmer when they got married 28 years ago.
Over twenty varieties of apples and seven kinds of pears grow on the farm’s 83 acres on Fletcher Road in Hannon. There is also pick your own pumpkins in October, other hand made products such as honey and syrup, and most recently guests can pick their own apples.
In recent years we’ve been seeing a shift, as more people are focusing on purchasing their food locally. There are a number of advantages to this, one of which being that by buying directly from the farmer, you can talk to the grower.
We're able to answer questions on everything from how the apples were grown to which varieties make the best pie.
At Fletcher’s Fruit Farm, it also means guests can indulge in one of the longstanding practices: sampling the wares. We always hear people say, ‘Oh, that’s what it’s supposed to taste like!’ That’s why we give people apples to try. How else would they know?
Many times, apples bought in grocery stores that have been shipped in from out of the province or country were picked green and then sprayed with chemicals to give them colour. At Fletcher’s Fruit Farm, all of our fruit is tree ripened, so you get the best flavour.
We are forever grateful for our loyal customers who return each year, and look forward to many more years of providing our community with fresh local produce.
